The BMW 5 Series keeps its value well, especially in the form of diesel Touring, and is a car as good for family use as for commercial purposes, although the Touring is not as tough as its equivalents "Mercedes E-class" and "Audi A6".
>Today, in this post, we present the excellent features of the BMW 5 Series Touring (E61) (the 5th generation; 2003-2010).
>EXTERIOR: In 2007, the new models of the 5 series E60/E61 were introduced with minor exterior changes. The Exterior Styling changes include headlights, taillights, and front bumper with a minor revision.
>INTERIOR: For 2007 new models Interior equipment was revised with major updates which were consisted of the updated iDrive system with programmable "favorite" shortcut buttons, a revised menu system, preset buttons for the audio system and the switch from DVD to hard disk-based storage.
>Other Changes: Other significant revisions include adaptive headlights, LED rear lights, Lane Departure Warning, night vision, a head-up display, and Brake Force Display. In BMW's history, The E60/E61 was the first model to feature regenerative braking.
And the diesel "five" overcame the twists and turns of the winding path with unexpected agility. It's not just about excellent traction dynamics. The new “five” had an ideal “driver” weight distribution along the axes - fifty to fifty. For such a distribution of mass, the front of the car had to be significantly lightened. And in order to achieve this, Munich took an unprecedented step - for the first time in the world, a completely aluminum front had riveted to a steel body! With an aluminum motor shield, pillar supports, mudguards, front spars half ... Suspension brackets were also almost completely aluminum. Front suspension - McPherson struts.
The 5-door touring Station wagon's steering can be ordered in several versions. The basic equipment was just a “rack” with variable pitch and with a hydraulic booster (the Jaguar S-Type was equipped with a similar ZF mechanism), which allowed rotating the steering wheel at smaller angles when parking, but in the “near-zero” zone it maintained normal steering wheel sensitivity.
The next step is the Servotronic power steering, which, depending on the speed, changes the force on the steering wheel. And the AFS system (planetary gear with an electric motor) will also add here active gear ratio control (in addition to the variable pitch of the rack teeth).
The same applied to the suspension - “in the base” BMW equipped with conventional passive stabilizers, but for an extra fee you can order Dynamic Drive active stabilizers (a powerful and high-speed hydraulic motor was included in the section of the stabilizer,
Later, the E60 / 61 version of the 5-series was updated with a 333-horsepower V8 engine.
But somewhere around the training grounds, a new generation BMW M5 was already racing - with an intriguing 500-horsepower engine, built according to the “formal” V10! The BMW 5-E60 (4-door sedan) was the first “sedan” in the world to feature a V10 gasoline engine.

OVERVIEW: Significant Changes to the BMW 5-Series Touring -E61 (2007):
The first generation of the famous 5th series of the Bavarian concern debuted in September 1972 (factory body index E12 ).
>The middle-class sedan of the classic layout with the characteristic nostrils of the negative-gradient radiator lining had a large margin of safety and reliability, but at that time it was still not as popular as Mercedes-Benz. This is very beneficial for the buyer reflected in its price. Ergonomics of the driver's seat and interior trim, at one time, were recognized as one of the best in the class, but, of course, from the perspective of today, the old "five" looks rustic to asceticism.
>However, in the fall of 2000, the first modernization of the BMW 5 Series models took place (fourth generation; 1995-2003). Externally updated “five” was easily recognizable by the transparent block headlights with round yellow direction indicators and a new front spoiler with round fog lights.
>The fifth-generation BMW 5 Series E60 has introduced in two body styles: a 4-door sedan (E60) and a 5-door station wagon / touring (E61), in June 2003. Outwardly, the new model reminds its predecessor very distantly.

BMW 5-Series Touring (E61) Station Wagon (2007) Review:
After the introduction of the 5-door station wagon, the BMW 5-Series (E61) with a new three-liter turbodiesel in dynamics lost the three-liter gasoline version in just a split second. And the diesel "five" overcame the twists and turns of the winding path with unexpected agility.
